Non-Virginia Resident Registration
Online Account
The Library of Virginia is unable to issue remote online accounts to Non-Virginia residents due to licensing agreements for digital content.
Library Card
Non-Virginia residents must visit the Library of Virginia in person to receive a library card.
ALL patrons of the Library of Virginia must obtain a library card to:
- view books from the closed stacks
- access Archives & Manuscripts Collections Policies and Procedures
- access Special Collections and Map Collections
- make prints and photocopies
To obtain a Library of Virginia library card, patrons must:
- be 18 years of age or older
- visit in person
- fill out registration information
- present valid photo identification
- present proof of residence/current physical address
- have their photo taken
Notes for All Patrons:
- Non-Virginia residents with valid library cards may check out closed stacks materials for use in the Library only.
- Library cards must be renewed once a year to keep the account active.
- A fee of $5.00 is charged to replace library cards.
Renewal of Library Card
Non-Virginia residents must renew their library card in person at the Library of Virginia, 800 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23219.
- Valid photo identification is required
- Proof of residence/current physical address is required
