A great-granddaughter of Virginia’s Revolutionary War patriot George
Mason, Emily Virginia Mason was educated at Mrs. Emma Willard’s
boarding school in Troy, New York. During the Civil War, she served
as matron at several Confederate hospitals. After the war, she spent
much of her fifteen years in Paris as assistant principal of an
American school for girls. |
