In her letter to her son after her transfer back to the District of Columbia jail, Pauline Adams noted that she was “in solitary” and had not been allowed neither her toothbrush nor her hairbrush. She borrowed the pencil to write the letter from “a new picket.” She used the jail’s toilet paper as writing paper.
