Nominate Your Favorite Virginia Authors & Books for the Library of Virginia Literary Awards Now is your chance to nominate books for the 2022 Library of Virginia Literary Awards. The deadline for all nominations is February 10, 2022. Books eligible for the awards must have been written by a Virginia author or, in the case of nonfiction, cover a Virginia subject. A Virginia author is defined as a writer meeting one or more of the following qualifications: a native-born Virginian, an author living in Virginia, or an author whose permanent home address is in Virginia. Entries must have been published and distributed between January 1 and December 31, 2021. For more information about the Library's Literary Awards program, please call 804.692.3535.
Make Your Calendar-Year-End Contribution! The Library of Virginia relies on the generosity of patrons and donors, like you, to make our work possible. This past year with your help, we accomplished meaningful work like launching our first class of diversity interns and conserving over 1,200 collection items. Please consider making a gift before December 31, so that together we can do more to make Virginia’s history accessible for present and future generations.
A collaboration between the Central Rappahannock Regional Library and the Library of Virginia, Virginia’s Deaf Culture Digital Library (deaflibva.org), provides resources and information for the commonwealth’s Deaf community, including an excellent collection of deaf resources in digital formats, access to information regardless of location, and assistance for Virginia residents and library staff members. The website was established in 2021 after a two-year review and development process that included interviews with Deaf community members and research into Virginia resources for the Deaf. The project was made possible by funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
We’ve Upgraded Our Bandwidth! This fall, the Library of Virginia upgraded its internet bandwidth from 50Mbps to 500Mbps. This increased speed is available on all patron systems as well as the Library's public WiFi. We hope that patrons visiting our building enjoy the improved connectivity and that virtual visitors notice faster responses as well.
