"Patrick Henry", 1863-1864; participated in the capture of U.S.S "Underwriter", February 2, 1864 on the C.S.S. "Chickmauga in 1864 just before surrender of army of Northern Virginia; was transferred to the C.S. and served as Captain and Aide-de-Camp on Stall with his brother Major General Fitzhugh Lee. He was born in Alexandria, Virginia on February 14, 1844. The son of Captain Sidney Smith Lee of the U.S. Navy and the C.S. Navy. He went with the Corps of caders under Jackson to Camp Lee at Richmond on April 21, 1861 and spent three months drilling volunteers; went to Manassas attached as drill master to brigade of General Whiting. Was then appointed to the C.S. Navy. His record from the Virginia Military Institue historiographer by himself as follows. Appointed Active Midshipman August 1861. Midshipman, June 2,1863. Past Midshipman, 1864. Lieutenant on C.S. Receiving Ship "United States", Norfolk, Virginia, 1861. Ironclad "Richmond" on James River, 1862-1863. C.S. Ironclad "Chicora". Charelston Harbor School, "Patrick Henry", James River, 1864. C.S. Cruiser "Chicora", "Chickamauga" 1864-1865. Lieutenant in charge of attachment of sailors to Man-Batteries ofMechanicsville Road in Port of Richmond. Later in Cold Harbor Fight of Petersburg, then Naval Brigade Drewry's Bluff. At fall of Richmond, was wounded and captured at Sailor's Creek, but escaped and joined the C.S. Calvalry. Captain and Aide-de-Camp to Major Genral Fitzhugh Lee. Remained with this command until surrender. Took part in Naval fight at Hampton Roads ("Monitor" &"Merrimack"). Ran Blockade Newport News Batteries twice from Norfolk to Richmond Steamer "Jamestown". Second time in Hampton Roads, cut out and captured two boats and one schooner with supplies U.S. Army in Hampton Creek. Special Expedition to run along side and capture "Monitor" and steamer "Harmony". Monitor refused to fight the second time. Naval attack Drewry's Bluff of U.S. Monitor. Naval attack Fort Sumpter and Batteries detachment of sailors from Steamer "Chicora". Ordered on Expedition under Captain Wood; captured U.S. Steamer "Underwriter" under Captain Minor, Plymouth, North Carolina. Assisted in capture of town. Fort Fisher first Naval attack, ran Blockade, U.S. Fleet off, Wilmington, North Carolina. C.S.S. Cruiser "Chickamauga".
