Special Collections

The Rare Book Collection consists of books dating as far back as the 15th century and collected over the past 175 years.

The Fine Arts Collection for the Commonwealth of Virginia is administered by the Library of Virginia. It consists of paintings and sculptures located largely in buildings in the Capitol Square area, such as the Library, State Capitol, Executive Mansion and Supreme Court.

The Prints and Photographs Collection houses more than 240,000 prints, photographs, postcards, posters and ephemera.  

The Prints and Photographs Collection offers a wide variety of services in conjunction with the Photographic Services department. The reproduction and use of all Library of Virginia images fall under the jurisdiction of the Prints and Photographs Collection.
