Manager of the Richmond bookstore of Jacob Johnson (237) and Benjamin Warner (429).
Dougherty is an obscure figure who is seen only in the advertising notices for the Richmond retail store operated by the Philadelphia booksellers Johnson & Warner (1808-16) and then by Warner alone (1816-24). That continuing presence suggests that he managed that store for the entirety of its sixteen-year existence, as does his designation as a collector of the store's accounts following Warner's death in 1824. Though not mentioned as such, he may also have been its manager for Collins & Co., the store's subsequent owner. As for any personal history, none has been found, though he may have been the Philip Dougherty who was buried in the yard of the Monumental Church in 1853, if still a young man in 1824.
No Personal Data yet discovered.
