Bookbinder in Petersburg in 1812.
The only notice of Homans in the printing trade is that of his death, as reported in the Petersburg Intelligencer: "a book binder, shot himself in a house on Old Street, and expired in a few minutes." No other information on Homans has been found, but the prevalence of his surname in the Boston area then suggests that he was from Massachusetts.
