S. J. Quinn, in his The History of the City of Fredericksburg, Virginia (1908), reports erroneously that the long-lived Virginia Herald, founded by Timothy Green (194), was conducted "some years after its establishment" by the firm of "Green, Lacy & Harrow." The paper's ownership at that time was actually the firm of "Green, Cady & Harrow." Between 1812 and 1823, Green brought in three young tradesmen as partners – Ebenezer P. Cady, James D. Harrow (204), and William F. Gray (192) – in search of a successor. In this iteration, Quinn mistranscribed the name "Cady" as "Lacy," seemingly the result of either a faded typeface or an imperfect impression lacking the ascender in "d" and the curved peak of "C" in Cady. Secondary sources that rely on Quinn have repeated the error uncritically.
