Printer in the office of Solomon Henkel (218) at New Market in 1820.
The solitary record of Lawton in the American printing trade is found on the title pages several imprints issuing from the Henkel Press in New Market. those imprints report that that title was "Printed in Solomon Henkel's Printing Office by J. H. Lawton" ["Gedruckt in Salomon Henkel's Druckerey bey J. H. Lawton"]. That phrasing suggests that the works were either intended to exhibit Lawton's skill or to pay him for his services. Whatever the case, no further trace of him can be found in the bibliographic or newspaper record, and his common name makes tracking him in the public record essentially impossible.
