Bookseller in Winchester (1816-20).
Murdock has left just a fleeting presence in the Virginia print trade. His Winchester store on North Loudoun Street is reported as operating in 1816 in one nineteenth-century history of the town. Murdock also appears in the town's 1820 census return as someone "engaged in manufacture," the category for bookbinders. Yet Murdock did not advertise in Winchester newspapers, nor has his bookplate been recorded in the database compiled by the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts. Thus, no other information on him has yet been found.
