Pressman in Alexandria office of Matthew Brown (057) and Samuel Snowden (393) in 1801.
James Butler has a fleeting presence in the historical record – he was an enslaved pressman who took flight from the Alexandria printing office of Matthew Brown and Samuel Snowden in December 1801. The only evidence found of his existence is the "ran away" notice that Snowden published in his Alexandria Advertiser in early January 1802.
