- notes: Duncan was forced to sell his paper at end of March 1775 by Norfolk committee enforcing the Continental Association; John Hunter Holt was forcibly retired from the business on September 30, 1775, when Lord Dunmore, the royal governor, ordered his press seized as a result of publishing seditious comments about his person and administration. Dunmore then used Holt's press to issue his own journal that fall and winter.
