- notes: Thomas Ritchie Jr. died on May 22, 1854; about October 1st, his interest in the Enquirer was sold to printer William W. Dunnavant (d. 1865), younger brother of the Petersburg publisher Marvel W. Dunnavant (154). Under this new regime, the paper was continued in both its daily and twice-weekly editions, with a new weekly edition added to the mix in March 1855; the firm also offered a new version of The Campaign Enquirer in 1856 (June-November) in support of the presidential candidacy of Democrat James Buchanan.
