- notes: The title "Times" is mentioned in an Ohio paper in July 1817, as being issued in Wellsburg; No copies of this variant are now known extant, though the title Spirit of the Times appears as that for a Wellsburg paper issued by Samuel Workman in December 1815, as calculated from number issued on October 10, 1817 (vol. 2, no. 90); lacking extant copies, title is supplied here from that latter title; as Workman conducted both the preceding and following papers, he evidently published this as well. Norona & Shetler noted title from June 1817 reference in an Ohio paper, unaware of the surviving numbers of fall 1817 bearing Workman's imprimatur; hence they incorrectly recorded this title as being distinctive one and not a link in a succession, so also accepting an earlier account that this paper ceased publication in 1820.
