The Philanthropist
- id: 510
- end_date: ca. February 28, 1809
- frequency: Weekly
- lineage_id: 118
- proprietors: Bartgis & Lingan
- start_date: March 18, 1806
- variant_number: Winchester 07-01
- notes: Published on press used to print the preceding Independent Register; probably backed by Matthias Bartgis Sr., the Frederick, Maryland, publisher, father of the senior partner here. Only twelve numbers of this paper survive; earliest establishes the starting date reported here; latest known is that of February 28, 1809, showing that it did cease before that date; publication likely ended two weeks later, as March 14, 1809 issue would have completed paper's third volume/year. Bartgis left Winchester at that time, with Lingan keeping press; he issued the succeeding Democratic Lamp from that press in June 1809.
