Davis, publisher of Alexandria's Columbian Telescope, eventually purchased the weekly from him, after McGlassin bought the competing Herald of the Valley in April. Davis took control of the combined paper in mid-September 1820, after closing his Telescope a month before; ownership transferred at the close of the year, after the sale of Davis's Alexandria press office earlier that fall.
