- notes: Green Peyton and James. C. Southall acquired the Advocate office from Robert C. Noel in March 1860 and immediately undertook a refitting and renaming; the first number of the succeeding Review issued six weeks later on April 13, 1860. The openly Unionist paper lost support over the ensuing year and so was closed after the Virginia secession vote in April 1861, probably in June, just before Peyton enlisted in an Albemarle County militia unit.
