• notes: With the issue of January 13, 1819, Gray became sole proprietor of the Herald and Green retired from the printing trade entirely. It appears that Gray's year-long ownership was an interim arrangement with James D. Harrow that allowed the young printer to mobilize the capital necessary for him to acquire the business himself at the end of January 1820.
