- title: Virginia, sc. I do hereby declare that George Mercer, Esq; appointed distributor of the stamps for this colony, having declined acting in that character until further orders, declared before me, in Council, that he did not bring with him, or was ever charged by the Commissioners of the customs in England with the care of any stamps ... Given under my hand, and the seal of the colony, this [blank] day of [blank] in the [blank] year of the reign of His Majesty King George III.
- sequence_number: 6
- year: 1765
- place_issued: Williamsburg
- issuing_press: Joseph Royle and Co.
- author: Virginia. Council.
- notes: Apparently printed before November 1, 1765, when the Stamp Act boycotts began, following Mercer's return to Virginia with a commission to act as distributor of the reviled stamps.
Likely the last Royle imprint; he died Sunday January 26, 1766 while the boycott continued.
