Sermon for the Benefit of the Poor Widows and Orphans of Clergymen (B).
- imprint_number: 1771.002
- title: A sermon preached at Williamsburg, May V. 1771, for the benefit of a fund to support the poor widows and orphans of clergymen in Virginia: by S. Henley, professor of moral philosophy, in William and Mary College.
- sequence_number: 2
- year: 1771
- place_issued: Williamsburg
- issuing_press: Purdie & Dixon
- author: Henley, Samuel (1740-1815).
- notes: Two variants of this tract were issued in Williamsburg; the printer imprint seen in the first version (1771.001) – "Printed by W. Rind and sold by him and Messrs. Purdie and Dixon for the charity" – establishes that variant as a Rind production; the imprint herein – "Printed for Mess. Payne, Davies, Elmsly and Pearch in London, and Mr. Woodyer in Cambridge" suggests a second edition by Purdie & Dixon, who had a larger bookselling business as well as a direct connection to Rev. Samuel Davies, whose widow is mentioned.
Evans recorded this variant (#12072), while Clayton-Torrence recorded the other one (#376), with both suggesting Rind as the uncredited producer.
