This proclamation is considered by many to mark the beginning of " Dunmore's War" (May to October 1774) against the Shawnee and Delaware peoples of the Ohio country; herein he asserted Virginia's jurisdiction over the region in defiance of similar jurisdictional claims by the Pennsylvania proprietors; this dispute led to differing colonial policies in dealing with native groups who rejected the conditions imposed by the 1768 Treaty of Fort Stanwix.
Sheet lacks printer imprint; Clementina Rind had succeeded her husband as public printer in August 1773, so was responsible for producing such official notices.
