Proclamation for a Day of Thanksgiving.
- imprint_number: 1780.010
- title: [Proclamation of the executive for a thanksgiving]
- sequence_number: 10
- year: 1780
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Dixon & Nicolson
- author: Jefferson, Thomas (1743-1826), governor.
- notes: Council ordered 100 copies of this decree printed on November 4, 1780; Swem reported title from that manuscript journal entry, though no surviving copies have been found.
The government of Virginia relocated to Richmond from Williamsburg in early 1780. The press of John Dixon and Thomas Nicolson moved there as well; however, the press of John Clarkson and Augustine Davis remained in Williamsburg unable to finance such a move. Thus the firm of Dixon & Hunter became the de facto printer to the Commonwealth, without the title, as they were the only printing office in Richmond in 1780.
