- imprint_number: 1786.005
- title: Journal of the house of delegates of Virginia. General assembly begun and held at the public buildings in the city of Richmond, on Monday the seventeenth of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-five.
- sequence_number: 5
- year: 1786
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Augustine Davis
- author: Virginia. General Assembly. House of Delegates.
- notes: Session met form October 17, 1785 to January 21, 1786.
Surviving copies lack title page, being bound with other session records, so they also lack a printer credit. Evans and Swem both attributed imprint to Dunlap & Hayes, the incumbent public printers during this Assembly. However, this title was assigned to Augustine Davis by the executive council in September 1786, after Dunlap & Hayes were dismissed in May 1786 for negligence and Hayes then refused to complete any pending public work; their backlog of uncompleted work, which included this journal, was assigned to Davis in anticipation of the following session; their public post was awarded to the firm of Dixon & Holt in June 1786.
