Circular Letter Relative to Pensioners.
- imprint_number: 1786.008
- title: In Council, February 20, 1786. Gentlemen, I am under the necessity of troubling you again on the subject of pensioners. The General Assembly, at their last session, having materially altered the law respecting them, that no person now on the pension list, can procure a warrant for the present year, until they undergo a re-examination, in order that their several degrees of disability may fully be ascertained, so as to make their future allowances correspond with their real situation. … I am, gentlemen, your very obedient servant, [blank]

- author: Virginia. Council of State.
- notes: Addressed to the various county courts of Virginia and signed in manuscript: "P. Henry."
Sheet lacks printer credit; item would normally have been printed by the public printer, but the incumbent then, Dunlap & Hayes, was struggling to produce the records of the Assembly of October 1785, and would be removed from office in May 1786 for not having completed the work assigned to them. Previously, the executive had employed the press of Dixon & Holt when that of Dunlap & Hayes was preoccupied with Assembly printing, and the firm would succeed to the public-printing concession in June 1786. So the press issuing this title was likely not Dunlap & Hayes, but either that of Dixon & Holt or of Thomas Nicolson, then printer to the Senate.
