Circular Letter on Pension Applications.
- imprint_number: 1786.009
- title: In order to prevent abuses as far as it is possible : in the settlement of public claims ... [regulation of procedure for filing claims resulting from the Revolution]
- sequence_number: 9
- year: 1786
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Virginia. Auditor of Public Accounts.
- notes: Dated March 14, 1786, addressed to the various county courts of Virginia, and signed in print: "John Pendleton."
Sheet lacks printer credit; item would normally have been printed by the public printer, but the incumbent then, Dunlap & Hayes, was struggling to produce the records of the Assembly of October 1785, and would be removed from office in May 1786 for not having completed the work assigned to them. Previously, the executive had employed the Dixon & Holt press when that of Dunlap & Hayes was preoccupied with Assembly printing, and their firm would succeed to the public-printing concession in June 1786. So the press issuing this title was likely not Dunlap & Hayes, but either that of Dixon & Holt or of Thomas Nicolson, then printer to the Senate.
