State of the Public Taxes for 1786.
- imprint_number: 1787.003
- title: State of the public taxes, payable for the year 1786, within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- sequence_number: 3
- year: 1787
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Dixon & Holt
- author: Virginia. Executive.
- notes: Text printed in two columns. Left column is a report from the state's solicitor of the taxes then in force and signed "L. Wood, Jun. Sol. Richmond, Solicitor's Office, July 6, 1786." Right column provides instructions from the state's treasurer on the means for discharging "the revenue tax" and "the certificate tax" for 1786 and signed "J. Ambler, Treasurer, Treasury-Office, January 1787. Reprint of a circular issued the preceding July (1786.015) on a larger sheet, evidently for distribution by Assembly members after adjournment on January 11th.
Sheet lacks printer credit; the firm of Dixon & Holt was appointed as the public printer in June 1786, succeeding that of Dunlap & Hayes, who were dismissed on May 5, 1786, as a result of their perceived negligence (tardy production of Assembly records), hence the attribution here.
