• notes: Blank form for use of governor to grant land for extraordinary service to the Commonwealth; this is an updated version of the similar item signed in 1780 by Jefferson (see 1780.A02).
  Library Company of Philadelphia holds only known copy of this form, which they acquired as part of the Michael Zinman Collection of Early American Imprints in 2000. Form is identical typographically to four 1780s variants filmed by the Early American Imprints Series (as nos. 50560, 50574, & 50575 in the Library Company Supplement) except for the word "Ninety" in place of "Eighty-" and its following blank (see 1787.A02). This uniformity suggests that Dixon kept this form in typeset from 1787 onward, so it could be printed on vellum as needed.
  This grant was completed in manuscript for the benefit of William Scott for a tract of land in Botetourt County signed by Gov. Beverley Randolph; however, the date of Randolph's grant is unclear, as the ink has faded away in the concluding blanks of this form.
  Imprint lacks colophon; John Dixon had been appointed as the public printer in June 1786, initially with John Hunter Holt, who died a year later; he held that position until his death in April 1791. As printing these forms was his responsibility, so the attribution seen here.
