In testimony whereof, these our letters are sealed with the seal of the commonwealth, and made patent. Witness [blank] Esquire, our said governor, at Richmond, this [blank] day of [blank] 179[blank]. • notes: This commission was a direct result of reorganization of the state militia in 1796 under an act of the November 1795 Assembly (see 1796.008) and Brooke's asking the county courts to recommend candidates to command new militia units (1796.007).
  Only recorded copy held by Library Company of Philadelphia (acquired from the Michael Zinman Collection of Early American Imprints) has manuscript completions of the blanks herein dated November 10, 1796 commissioning James Bryant of Montgomery County as a lieutenant in a cavalry troop there; signed in manuscript by Governor Brooke and Adjutant General Samuel Coleman as well.
