- sequence_number: 45
- year: 1798
- place_issued: Norfolk
- issuing_press: Willett & O'Connor
- author: Freemasons. Sagesse Lodge no. 16.
- notes: Title translates as: "Table of Brothers Fraternal which comprise the French Provincial Lodge, under the distinctive title of Wisdom: at the Portsmouth Orient, in Virginia, a State in Northern America. In the era of the St. John, 5798" [i.e. 1798].
French Provincial freemasonry was rare in the United States, and the lodge in Portsmouth (an Orient) was evidently then the only one in Virginia; designed to serve traveling French traders and diplomats, such meetings answered to the Grand Orient of France in Paris. An English translation of this title was issued separately (1798.046), evidently as a part of an effort to transfer supervision of the lodge to the Grand Lodge of Virginia (see 1798.010).
Copy seen by Evans was not found for filming by the Early American Imprints Series.
