• notes: The Republican Page offers himself as an alternative to Federalist Thomas Evans as the representative for his eastern Virginia district in the forthcoming 6th Congress; Page served as such in the 3rd (1793-94) and 4th (1795-96) Congresses before losing his seat to Evans in the election for the 5th Congress in 1797; now, in the wake of the Alien & Sedition Acts, Page sought to undermine Evans by discussing his support for such repressive measures; still he lost to Evans again in a district that included the heavily Federalist Eastern Shore. Page later served two terms a governor (1803-1805).
  Imprimatur of John Dixon Jr., combined with Page's dated by-line, suggests this was Dixon's first non-newspaper imprint after his partnership with Meriwether Jones was dissolved.
