  Copy held by the Virginia Historical Society is a presentation copy, signed in manuscript: "by the author, St. George Tucker." Tucker wrote in response to a defense of the Alien & Sedition Acts by Virginia representative Thomas Evans: An Address Respecting the Alien and Sedition Laws (1798.029); text is dated and signed in print: "Columbus. Virginia, June 6th, 1799."
  Evans suggested a Virginia origin for this title; the typography herein is consistent with the Richmond press of Samuel Pleasants, who was both the principal Republican printer in the state in 1799 and a member of the party's central committee in the capital; given concurrent efforts by Republican leaders to defeat Federalists like Evans in that spring's congressional elections, it is most likely that this issued from the Pleasants press, so the attribution here.
