  Robert Pleasants was the leader of the Curles Meeting of Quakers in Henrico County; this suit was brought in order to emancipate all of the slaves in his late father's estate; his father's will had introduced a schedule for freeing all of his 430 slaves, who were dispersed among the farms of his children and grandchildren, in agreement with current Quaker antislavery ideals; yet many were still held in bondage by legatees of that estate, such as Mary Logan. Between March 1798 and March 1800, Pleasants's attorneys waged a successful campaign in Chancery Court to implement his father's plan; this imprint reports the court's decisions in his favor over that time, with several lists of slaves eligible for emancipation under those decisions.
  Imprint lacks printer credit; Richmond printer Samuel Pleasants was a kinsman of Robert Pleasants (the son of a cousin to Robert), and so the publisher the Quaker leader employed when needed, though usually without the printer's mark, so the attribution here.
