Eulogy on the Life of General George Washington.
- imprint_number: 1800.043
- title: An eulogy on the life of General George Washington, who died at Mount Vernon, December 14th, 1799, in the 68th year of his age.
- sequence_number: 43
- year: 1800
- place_issued: Richmond
- issuing_press: Henry Pace
- author: Paine, Robert Treat, Jr. (1773-1811).
- notes: Signed at bottom of left column: "Wrote by Thomas Paine. A.M." In 1801, Paine changed his name to Robert Treat Paine, Jr. in honor of his father, then an associate justice on Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts and previously a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Pace reprinted the oration that Paine delivered in Newburyport, Massachusetts on January 2, 1800, which was then published there as an octavo pamphlet (Evans 38178).
Sheet lacks publication date; Pace arrived in Richmond in late 1800; Evans suggested a date of 1800, apparently on the first anniversary of Washington's death; if so, this broadside was among the first publications that Pace issued in Virginia; date seen here conforms to Evans.
