- imprint_number: 1800.071
- title: Petition in favour of a division of Berkeley County: to the General Assembly of Virginia ... inhabitants of the County of Berkeley ...
- sequence_number: 71
- year: 1800
- place_issued: Virginia
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Inhabitants of Berkeley County
- notes: Petition received a favorable reception with the Assembly as an act was passed on January 8, 1801, that split off the eastern end of Berkley, along the Potomac River, into the new County of Jefferson effective in January 1802 (Chap. XXXI of the Acts of December 1800 Assembly).
Sheet lacks printer credit; only known copy is in the state archives at the Library of Virginia, and is dated in manuscript "Dec. 5, 1800" by a clerk of the House of Delegates, showing date of submission, and so of printing; content suggests that this sheet issued from Martinsburg, but the possibility of an origin from a Winchester or Alexandria press cannot be excluded, so the indeterminacy here.
