- notes: At the end of the preceding session, the Assembly instructed senators Stephens Thompson Mason, and Wilson Cary Nicholas to pursue the repeal of the Alien & Sedition Acts, as well as to force reductions in the military expenditures of the Adams administration that allowed it to maintain a standing army and navy, so returning responsibility for national defense to the militia of the various states, as during the Revolutionary War (1800.003). This resolution, passed on December 22, 1800, reiterated their instruction on repeal of the sedition law.
No copy known extant; Jones was ordered on December 15th to print 250 copies of the draft resolution for the use of the Assembly in their deliberations over these instructions.
