- author: Library Society of Richmond.
- notes: The text includes the fees and regulations of the Library Society of Richmond.
Formed in 1784, the Society was a private association based on the commercial circulating library that Nicolson had brought to Richmond from Williamsburg in 1780; he remained the central figure in the library's operation until January 1806, when his members were granted a corporate charter by the General Assembly (Chap. 76 of Acts of December 1805 Assembly, enacted January 30, 1806) as the Library Company of Richmond; apparently, that charter was sought in response to Nicolson's declining health (he died in November 1808).
