  The initial four essays were published in late December 1800 in the National Intelligencer over the pseudonym Epaminondas; publisher Samuel Harrison Smith then issued the set as a pamphlet in early January 1801; two more essays were apparently issued as pamphlets from the Georgetown press of Charles Green & David English later in 1801; this Alexandria issue was followed the last essay, dated January 31st, 1803, from an unnamed Washington press. It appears that no copies of essay VI have survived.
  Imprint states: "Alexandria, Territory of Columbia: Printed by S. Snowden & Co. ― Sold by Rapine and by Stickney, Washington, and Bishop, Alexandria, where the previous numbers may be procured, January, 1802." Advertisements for the Smith edition in January 1801 indicate that bookseller Samuel Bishop was a distributor of the series from the start.
