- notes: Proclamation ordered local health officers in Virginia to enforce as strictly as possible the state's quarantine laws in the face of a pervasive yellow fever epidemic in the West Indies that had spread to New York City.
No copy known extant; Swem listed this item as simply "Quarantine proclamation;" text was published the same day in the Virginia Argus of Samuel Pleasants, who was ordered to print 50 copies of Page's order for distribution among state officials responsible for enforcement; title here taken from the newspaper notice of August 22, 1803, not from Swem.
While proclamations were usually printed by the public printer, this title marks the beginning of the substitution of Pleasants for Meriwether Jones in that office; from summer 1803 until March 1804, Jones was the titular printer but often subcontracted his work to Pleasants.
