An Ode by J. R Toulmin.
- imprint_number: 1803.056
- title: An ode. By J. R Toulmin. Oh! cruel fate, that man should be doomed to abject slavery … Lexington. May 7. 1803 …
- sequence_number: 56
- year: 1803
- place_issued: Lexington
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Toulmin, J. R.
- notes: This anti-slavery poem evidently sold well enough that Toulmin soon proposed publishing a collection of his verse (1803.057); as no copy of that offered work is known, either by direct or indirect evidence, that collection was apparently never issued.
Sheet lacks colophon; while text indicates place of publication, there were two press offices operating in Lexington in 1803 (those of Samuel Walkup and John McMullin), hence the indeterminate attribution here.
