- imprint_number: 1803.072
- title: To the honorable legislature of Virginia. : The petition of the inhabitants of that part of Virginia, comprehended within the counties composing the district of Petersburg--Humbly sheweth—That a petition will be presented to your honorable body, to move the district court of Petersburg, to Dinwiddie courthouse ... And your petitioners humbly conceive themselves warranted, in offering ... reasons countervailing those in the said petition contained. ...
- sequence_number: 72
- year: 1803
- place_issued: Petersburg
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Inhabitants of Petersburg Judicial District.
- notes: Only known copy is held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia; petitioners oppose the relocation of the district court from Petersburg to the Dinwiddie County Court House; the House journal shows that this petition was received by the Assembly on December 15, 1803; only legislation resulting from this petition, and the ones favoring relocation (1803.069), was to move the meeting-place of court sessions in Petersburg from a privately-owned tavern to the publicly-owned town hall (Chap. CIV, Acts of December 1803 Assembly).
Sheet lacks colophon; topic suggests the urban/rural divide between Federalist Petersburg and the town's Republican hinterland; if so, then this title likely issued from the Petersburg press of William Prentis, but the item provides no evidence in support of that possibility, so the indeterminacy here.
