• notes: A separate printing of Chap. I of the Acts of the December 1803 Assembly, enacted into law on January 28, 1804. The public printer, Meriwether Jones, was ordered to print 3000 copies of the act for distribution throughout the state, and was paid for that production via another order of the Council of State on March 31, 1804. As a result, Swem credited Jones with the printing of this title, though he did not see a copy in doing so; the imprint in only copy known extant, in the collection of the Virginia Historical Society, reports that Jones subcontracted this assignment to John Courtney Jr.; Jones was then preparing to resign the office of public printer in order to assume a Federal position as head of the U.S. Land Office in Virginia.
