• notes: A circular letter from the governor-in-council to the county escheators – the officials charged with disposing of property seized by or reverting to the state – with various instructions for conducting their offices in light of recent legislative changes and appellate court decisions.
  Only copy known extant is held in the special collections of the University of Virginia. Title lacks an imprint; while such circular letters were usually printed by the public printer, credit for producing this item is unclear; Meriwether Jones resigned that office in March 1804 and was replaced by Samuel Pleasants; but prior to that change, Jones regularly subcontracted the public work to other printers as he reduced the scale and output of his press in advance of his resignation; so as this title was issued in February of 1804, several Richmond printers could have produced the item, hence the indeterminacy here.
