- imprint_number: 1804.047
- title: To the freeholders of Essex, King and Queen, & King William. Friends and fellow citizens ... Geo. W. Banks. Tappahanock [sic], 9th March, 1804.
- sequence_number: 47
- year: 1804
- place_issued: Fredericksburg
- issuing_press: Chiles & Burch
- author: Banks, George W.
- notes: Banks wrote to the voters of the 11th Virginia Congressional district opposing the candidacy of Carter Braxton Jr. (1765-1809) as successor to the retiring Anthony New; the son of the like-named signer of the Declaration of Independence, Braxton was the Federalist running against James M. Garnett, the Republican candidate; Garnett won this election handily.
Sheet lacks colophon; by March 1804, there was only one Republican press still operating in Fredericksburg, the nearest such press to the district, conducted by Samuel Chiles and Isham Burch, hence the attribution here.
