Prospectus for a Map of Virginia.
- imprint_number: 1804.056
- title: A map of Virginia, formed from actual surveys, and the latest as well as most accurate observations by James Madison, D. D, President of William & Mary College.
- sequence_number: 56
- year: 1804
- place_issued: Petersburg
- issuing_press: Dickson & Pescud
- author: Madison, James (1749-1812), bishop.
- notes: Handbill seeking subscribers for what became known as "Bishop Madison's Map" of Virginia published in 1807. Petersburg printer-publisher William Prentis coordinated the project for Madison, after selling his newspaper, the Petersburg Intelligencer, to the two most-senior tradesmen in his office, John Dickson and Edward Pescud, while retaining a financial interest in the office; those circumstances inform attribution here for a sheet without colophon.
