• notes: Part of a larger history of the Revolution which "will be speedily followed, probably by the whole of the work, at least by the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parts, to which some additions are deemed necessary" [Translator's note, p. iv], however, no other parts were published.
  Girardin was invited to join the faculty of the College of William & Mary in early 1803; he had been a member of the court of Louis XIV, which gave him a familiarity with Croisoeuil long before their exile in America; he was later editor (1815-16) of the Richmond Compiler.
