- notes: The December 1805 Assembly was inundated with petitions related to the Bank of Virginia that it had chartered during its preceding session; this petition sought the siting of a branch adjacent to Alexandria, which had been excluded from the January 1805 enabling act as the port was now part of the District of Columbia; on December 6th, the Assembly received and sent to a committee copies of this petition from signers in Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, Hampshire, Jefferson, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford, and Westmoreland Counties; the committee thought the requests reasonable, but the whole House of Delegates rejected the petition, as well as others concerning the Bank, while it conducted a thorough examination of the practices of several local boards appointed under the earlier act of incorporation.
Item lacks colophon; Hummel reported this as an 1803 imprint, yet the Bank of Virginia was not formed until early 1805; so this imprint was another of the many petitions received by the December 1805 Assembly, though a different printing from two other like-titled petitions cited in this Index (1805.054 & 1805.055); both of those items were ascribed to an unnamed Alexandria press; however the many locations returning the petitions means that one or all of them could have issued in Winchester or Fredericksburg, so the indeterminacy here.
