Petition seeking to Amend the State Constitution.
- imprint_number: 1807.074
- title: To the Speakers, and Members of the two houses ... petition ... inhabitants of the county of [blank] ...
- sequence_number: 74
- year: 1807
- place_issued: Virginia
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Inhabitants of Pittsylvania County.
- notes: Only known copy, held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia, carries a manuscript date of December 30, 1807, indicating date of submission to the Assembly; corresponding entry in the House journal shows that the blanks were completed in name of Pittsylvania County. Item is one of the series of petitions from western counties asking for a state-wide convention to alter the apportionment provisions of the 1776 constitution; as with all such petitions before 1829, this appeal was referred to the committee of the whole house and was left on the table when the Assembly eventually adjourned.
Sheet lacks colophon; as no press operated in Pittsylvania at this time, a specific attribution is impracticable, so the indeterminacy here.
