Petition of Samuel Holmes of Mecklenburg County.
- imprint_number: 1808.093
- title: To the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives ... petition of Samuel Holmes ...
- sequence_number: 93
- year: 1808
- place_issued: Virginia
- issuing_press: Uncertain
- author: Holmes, Samuel.
- notes: Sheet lacks colophon; item dated in manuscript: "December 8, 1808." The House journal for that date shows that Holmes had stood security for the appearance of one Isaac Holmes in the district court at Richmond; judgment was entered against Samuel when Isaac did not show; he asked the Assembly to remit the judgment against him, but the House rejected his request immediately after the petition was read. Holmes resided in Mecklenburg County, indicating item could have issued from Petersburg or Richmond, so the indeterminacy here.
This is one of the few printed private-interest petitions known from Virginia.
