- notes: In February 1808, the General Assembly authorized publication of the colonial-era laws of Virginia in a series of volumes edited by William Waller Hening, the clerk of the High Court of Chancery; they required that Hening's work and the resulting printed pages be examined and certified as to their authenticity and correctness; this sheet was the published affidavit of the two examiners of the first volume that was printed in the fall of 1809. At this time, Creed Taylor was Chancellor of the Superior Court for the Richmond District, and William Munford was clerk to the Supreme Court of Appeals, as well as Hening's partner in publishing reports on the cases decided in both of those appellate courts.
Sheet lacks colophon; as this certification was intended for publication in the first volume of Hening's Statutes at Large (1809.034), it certainly issued from the press of Samuel Pleasants, publisherof that work, so the attribution here.
